Build Foundation Skills for Keyboarding Success
Introduce the keyboard and mouse functions while making sure young children use correct habits from the beginning. Kindergarten typing activities support reading and handwriting skills with a strong focus on letter recognition, blends, digraphs, and rhymes.
Students develop finger dexterity and finger-key association using game-based lessons for typing letters and words. As familiarity with the keyboard grows, children type word parts, frequently used words, and short sentences.
Students practice their letter recognition and keyboarding skills from earlier grades at a faster pace and develop muscle memory by practicing frequently used letter combinations.
Students become familiar with skills essential to computer-based assessments, including scrolling and selecting from drop-down menus. Third grade starts with review and mastery of second-grade work and quickly moves into introducing number and function keys, formatting, and writing paragraphs. Activities are aligned with grade-level reading ranges, and the lessons are scaffolded to support a developmental progression for all learners to:
